It is the belief of the Kelsey Conservation District Board that the first step to sustaining a healthy water supply is through public education. Some of our programs in place are school programs, summer tours, public relations, newsletters and our management plan. If you have any further ideas that you think would be of benefit to our public education portfolio please call, fax, email or stop by our office with your thoughts.

Public Relations

In order for programs to be developed the Board and Staff of Kelsey Conservation District look forward to working with every group that can benefit from them. Please let us know what we can do for you.

Management Plan

After a process that involved several consultation meetings with local residents the District is proud to present its Management Plan. This 36-page document will help guide future decision-making for the Board and give direction to staff. If you reside in the RM of Kelsey or if you have an interest in watershed issues you will find this to be an interesting read. There are a limited number of copies available so if you would like one please stop by the office soon to pick one up.

School Programs/Youth Tours

The children of today are our adults of tomorrow. Programs and tours have been designed to make learning about our watershed fun by way of exploring the Saskatchewan River basin. We are at the beginning stage of developing these programs so if you have any ideas please contact the Kelsey Conservation District office.

Summer Tour

We Went Whole Hog!

The District’s 3rd annual 2006 Summer Tour and Pit Roast was a success! We had the largest turn out ever with over a hundred people coming to enjoy the bus tour, presentations and a whole hog pit roast and corn boil. If you missed it make sure you take it in next year. Some of the tour highlights were a visit to a local apiary where Chris Perchaluk demonstrated what is involved in the production of honey. Pasture Manager Randy Dreger gave a demonstration on some innovative watering systems for livestock. Marg Donahoe gave a tour of a cornfield that will be used for swath grazing on Donfield Farms. A demonstration of bale grazing and a heatless watering system was viewed at Ken and Joan LaJambe’s. A stop was made at the District’s tree plot to show what tree species do well in this area and those that do not. The tour wrapped up back at the Carrot Valley Hall where a whole hog was dug up after cooking for 18 hours in the ground. This feast was accompanied by corn on the cob cooked over a fire, wild rice and other trimmings. There was little left over so the cooks felt they did a good job.
